AT&T Fiber Installation, Part 1

The building we’re in was already lit with Verizon fiber, but we ended up having to accelerate our plans to install a secondary fiber entrance for an AT&T loop due to the continuing delays with Verizon. This time it involves some road construction.

Ultimately this is a benefit for everyone because we have two independent fiber loops, but we had originally planned to start accepting new colocation and hosting customers last year. The next step is for AT&T to pull their fiber.

Will this provide native IPv6 connectivity similar to what Sprint is now offering?

And will this be a redundant multi-homed Internet connection supplementing what you will be getting from Sprint and/or Verizon?

Since AT&T is the ILEC in our area it will actually carry the Sprint circuits. Verizon is unique in that they have separate fiber assets originally installed by Brooks Fiber in the 1990’s which were later acquired by MCI. In our old location we also had SAVVIS, but we disconnected it because it was too expensive and did not have any IPv6 support.

Verizon still hasn’t figured out how to get their circuit to work yet, so this is “plan B” that we mentioned back in December in this post.
